About us
Hábitat para la Humanidad Guatemala
Habitat for Humanity Guatemala is a non-profit organization that helps low–income families improve their living conditions by building new homes and housing communities, stabilizing and improving existing houses, and offering affordable housing solutions such as smokeless stoves, water filters and basic sanitation services.
We work together with families to provide them the opportunity to achieve their dreams of obtaining a comfortable and healthy living environment. Similar to other Habitat programs elsewhere, HFHG does not give away homes but rather partners with families by offering homeowners affordable low-interest mortgages. Our vision is that all families in Guatemala inhabit an adequate home.
Since 1979, we have provided over 100,000 housing solutions for over 600,000 individuals. With a housing deficit in Guatemala of over 1.8 million homes, we will continue to grow because we believe that everyone deserves a decent home. Our mission is simple: Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
With 25 offices across Guatemala, Habitat for Humanity Guatemala has national coverage. Each office is located in the main city of each department to cover all families’s necessities. We also have national offices in Quetzaltenango and Guatemala City, which are directly connected with volunteers and donors.
We partner with Guatemalan families to improve their quality of live through a low rate interest loan, which covers the complete cost of a house, house improvement, among others; families are provided with construction materiales and qualified local labor, not cash.
As part of our programs, Habitat Guatemala also provides families with different educational trainings, to guarantee a well-rounded development.
All of our houses are built with high quality and seismic- resistant standard materials, to guarantee all families safety. Furthermore, all constructions are supervised by experts.
We are a source of employment for over 600 masons a year. Our international volunteers mean and additional investment for touristic sector.
Through financial support, volunteering or awareness you can support affordable housing, because everyone can help these families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build a better life.
